    Article summary

When faculty who are funded in part or in whole by a professorship with a funding source, that funding source is listed in the faculty member's cost distribution located on the iForms data sheet. A Cost Distribution Change iForm is required by the appropriate staff member, determined by the faculty's department or organization, in order to access the funds.

Faculty awarded a professorship, regardless of funding, are likely eligible to hold a professorship title, which can be captured in SAP. This title can be displayed on the faculty data sheet in dFac, on Scholars@Duke, in the Duke directory, and on departmental and school websites. The professorship title displayed on the faculty data sheet is entered into SAP by Office of Faculty Affairs Administration staff.

Currently, there is not a professorship form built into dFac. Therefore we are using Qualtrics to capture requests for new professorships, as well as any adjustments that need to be made during the faculty member's career. Qualtrics form submissions provide the data the FAA office needs to enter the data in SAP. The link to the Qualtrics form is available from the dFac home page in Duke@Work.

The Professorship form in Qualtrics is designed to flexibly handle many kinds of requests including:

    • Adding a new professorship title.
    • Ending an existing professorship title.
    • Extending or renewing an existing professorship title.
    • Transferring an individual from one professorship to another.
    • Conferring an individual with the emeritus version of their existing professorship.

The information needed to submit a request in Qualtrics includes:

    • The school where the faculty member's primary appointment is located.
    • The name of the professorship fund (and possibly the fund code). This may look like, "R CARSON PROF IN MARINE AFFAIRS".
    • The desired professorship title for the individual faculty member. This may look like "Rachel Carson Distinguished Professor in the Nicholas School for the Environment."
    • Effective dates including a start and end date. For professorships awarded to tenured or emeritus faculty, the end date may be 12/31/9999.
    • Supporting documentation: Typically an appointment letter confirming the title. If the documentation was already attached to a dFac Appointments form, it does not need to be submitted again.
